- A Reusable Packaging Solution Replacing Single-Use Cardboard Boxes

- Reduces packaging waste by 99%, CO₂ emissions by 83%, and packaging costs by up to 15%

Korea Container Pool (KCP), a core affiliate of the LOGISALL Group, has officially launched its reusable packaging container, the “RRCC (Reusable Returnable Collapsible Container),” designed as an environmentally friendly alternative to single-use cardboard boxes.

First unveiled in May at the KOREA MAT international logistics expo as a central feature of LOGISALL’s “Automation & Zero Waste” scenario, the RRCC has since drawn considerable attention for its dual impact on logistics automation and sustainable resource management.

The RRCC was developed to drastically reduce packaging waste while cutting logistics costs and boosting operational efficiency. Its core innovation lies in replacing disposable corrugated cardboard boxes with a highly durable, collapsible container suitable for repeated use.

The system operates under a pooling model, in which KCP collects used containers, thoroughly washes them using specialized facilities, and reissues them for continued use-ensuring high hygiene standards and effective circular resource management. Manufactured using robust, moisture-resistant materials, the RRCC offers superior product protection.

Internal testing at KCP revealed that adopting RRCCs can reduce packaging waste by up to 99%, water usage by 88%, and CO₂ emissions by as much as 83%. In terms of cost-efficiency, each container can be reused more than 70 times, leading to packaging cost savings of approximately 10-15%.

The RRCC is fully compatible with existing automated packing lines. It can be customized to match traditional cardboard box specifications-including size, design, and print placement-and used interchangeably with paper boxes on the same packaging equipment, enabling seamless implementation without sacrificing productivity.

Each container is printed with a unique QR code, allowing for real-time tracking of individual units. This enhances inventory audits, turnover monitoring, and operational visibility across the logistics chain.

KCP positions RRCCs as especially effective for standardized consumer goods, automated packaging products, and high-turnover items. For manufacturers, the solution offers benefits such as reduced packaging costs, lower inventory of packaging materials, and improved packing quality. Large-scale retail and distribution channels-including discount stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, and fulfillment centers-can also gain from reduced packaging waste, optimized disposal space and manpower, and lower waste-handling costs.

A KCP spokesperson commented, “RRCC is currently undergoing pilot operations with major food and consumer goods manufacturers. Full-scale adoption is expected to ramp up in the second half of this year.” They added, “Far beyond just packaging, the RRCC presents an eco-conscious logistics solution that enables companies to reduce logistics costs and realize their ESG strategies in tangible, measurable ways.”
