- Dedicated returnable containers help ensure product quality and improve logistics efficiency
- Expanding into direct sourcing and supply of fresh produce to strengthen end-to-end cold chain capabilities
Korea Container Pool (KCP), a subsidiary of LOGISALL Group, is strengthening its fresh food logistics business by operating a watermelon inventory center for Coupang Rocket Fresh. In addition to managing logistics operations, KCP is also expanding into the direct sourcing and supply of fresh produce, broadening its cold chain business.
Since June, KCP has been managing watermelon storage and distribution operations at its South Anseong Cold Chain Center. Dedicated returnable containers (RG533 and CP533) are used for the transportation and storage of watermelons, helping ensure a stable supply of fresh watermelons to Coupang Rocket Fresh customers.
A key feature of the operation is the dedicated packaging and cold chain process developed specifically for watermelons and their distribution environment. By using reusable returnable containers, KCP helps minimize quality deterioration during transportation and storage while maintaining systematic control over the entire logistics process, from inbound receiving through storage and outbound delivery.
Alongside its logistics center operations, KCP also directly sources watermelons from producing regions and supplies them to customers. This expands its business beyond its traditional logistics equipment pooling and logistics services into agricultural sourcing and product supply, enabling KCP to provide a more integrated solution across the fresh food supply chain.
Last year, KCP also operated a citrus repacking center, improving product quality and efficiency throughout the distribution process. Building on this experience, the company plans to expand its product portfolio to include imported fruits and other fresh food categories, while continuing to strengthen its product sourcing and cold chain logistics services.
A KCP representative said, “Quality management is critical when handling fresh produce, making standardized returnable packaging and reliable cold chain operations key to maintaining competitiveness. We will continue to expand our end-to-end fresh food logistics services, combining logistics operations with product sourcing and supply to strengthen our customers’ supply chains and contribute to a more stable agricultural distribution environment.”
